Borussia Dortmund’s Striker Erling Haaland Scores first goal of football’s return:
The 19-year-old produced a fine finish to open the scoring for Dortmund in the Revierderby against Schalke.
Football’s return was greeted around the world, with the Bundesliga becoming the first of Europe’s major leagues to return.
Dortmund vs Schalke was the pick of the games and Haaland, of course, was the first to get on the scoresheet.
He produced a fine finish to steer the ball home from close range.
Haaland scores vs Schalke
The best don’t need long to get going again.
It was Haaland’s 10th goal of the Bundesliga season and it was quickly followed up by Raphael Guerreiro’s strike to make it 2-0.
Borussia Dortmund entered the day four points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich as the season made its return.
But they showed no signs of rust in a terrific opening 45 minutes.
Haaland and Guerreiro can’t have enjoyed celebrating in front of an empty crowd, but it must have been nice to get back to football.
Indeed, Dortmund’s coach Lucien Favre wanted his players to be prepared to play in an empty stadium, even encouraging them to work with the club’s sports psychologist to cope with the experience.
“A match without spectators is really different and we have to be well prepared,” he said in a press conference ahead of the game, per the Daily Mail.
“It’s a question of mentality, which is very important.
“You put in a pass or you shoot and no-one reacts, so we had to prepare for that and it’s very good that we have a sports psychologist involved.”
